Hello there! My name is Shanice, and I consider myself a relational therapist. I utilize modalities that explain human behavior through relationships. I work with women who experience anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and co-dependency. As an attachment therapist, I help my clients identify where these behaviors originate, and why they’re still prevalent in adulthood. Often, the women I work with have experienced complex trauma and have anxious or insecure attachment. Sometimes, when these symptoms go untreated, they can lead to additional mental health issues such as depression, substance abuse, low self-esteem or difficulty forming or maintaining platonic and romantic relationships. I am a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and am highly qualified to work with individuals with anxiety. I utilize various styles of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Psychodynamic Therapies (learn more about these interventions under the “services” tab).
Becoming a therapist wasn't just a career choice for me; it was a calling rooted deeply in my life experiences and passions. From a young age, I found myself drawn to understanding people, their emotions, their struggles, and their journey through life. This curiosity eventually evolved into a desire to help others navigate their own paths toward healing.
One of the pivotal moments that solidified my decision was witnessing firsthand the transformative power of therapy in my own life. I saw how therapy could provide a safe space for exploration, vulnerability, and an inspiration for positive change. It was a life changing experience to be able to confront deep rooted fears, process painful experiences, and emerge a stronger, more resilient version of myself.
This journey compelled me want to take a seat in the other chair, to become a witness to this life changing experience for others as well. Being a therapist is a privilege. I am deeply passionate about walking alongside people during some of their most challenging moments, to offer empathy, insight, and support when they need it most. The opportunity to contribute to someone's journey toward greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, and fulfillment, gifts me with a profound sense of purpose.
What sets me apart as a therapist isn't just my training or credentials—it's a unique blend of personal values, professional philosophy, and a deep commitment to my clients' well-being. My approach is deeply rooted in relationship, empathy and authenticity. I strive to create a space where people feel heard, understood, and accepted for they are. As a relational therapist, this foundation of trust is essential for building therapeutic rapport and facilitating genuine growth and transformation.
I value empowerment and collaboration. I see therapy as a partnership where clients are active participants in their healing journey. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment, I empower clients to explore their strengths, clarify their values, and make meaningful changes in their lives.
I offer my clients resources, handouts, worksheets, and guides to supplement the work we do. Client’s often value the ability to practice skills we learn in sessions, in their personal lives using real life situations. This is where true growth occurs.
All that to say - I think what makes me different as a therapist is not just what I do, but how and why I do it. I believe in healing the whole person, and this begins with developing self-trust and a regulated nervous system. I teach my clients how to do this in and out of our sessions so that they may feel confident and empowered.
