Counseling for Generational Trauma
Generational trauma looks like continuing the unhelpful patterns of family members before you
Do you find yourself following in the footsteps of the family members before you, even though you swore you would do differently? Are you struggling with family patterns that have left you feeling like it’s all you know and you have no idea how to change? Generational trauma is often caused by a generational pattern of addiction, co-dependency or poverty. Generational trauma manifests in adulthood as making decisions out of “survival” and not in alignment with who you are, or wish to become.
Common beliefs - “This is just who I am”, “I’m at a disadvantage”, “I’m going to end up just like my family”,
Interpersonal challenges - Unsure of identity, Conflict between who you are currently and who you’d like to become, mixed emotions regarding family members
How to heal - Acceptance about where you come from, identifying what’s holding you back from becoming who you want to be, finding a supportive community with likeminded values, setting boundaries
